I was tagged!

I was tagged by Ashlin, a follower of mine, a week ago and am just now answering it...:)
1. When and how did you become a Christian? (Story time)
I became a Christian when I was 11.  I had grown up in church, and said I was a Christian because my friends did.  My faith didn't become real to me until I was 11.
2. How many siblings do you have and what is your "place"? i.e. Oldest, Second born, Middle, ect.
I have an older sister...We are besties :)
3. Do you prefer skirts/dresses or pants/shorts?
Um...I like dressing up for church, but love me some comfy jeans :)
4. If you could choose from any occupation, which would you like best?
I really want to get my degree in MIS (Management Information Systems) and I think it would be really cool to be a nanny that travels with a band....yeah, I'm weird.
5. What Book(s) of the Bible are you currently reading in your devotions?
I'm currently doing a 90 day Beth Moore study on John
6. Which movie genre is your favorite?
I'm a chic flick girl :)
7. Which of your birthdays is most memorable? (Again, a story is meant to be in the answer.)
Hmmm...Probably my 16th, because I got my car.
A couple weeks before my birthday, my parents made my sister take me shopping and they went to pick up my car and surprised me with it in a ChickFilA parking lot :)
8. If you could live anywhere in the world [or galaxy] where would you live and why there?
Wisconsin on a lake for the summer, Texas in the winter! I LOVE Wisconsin summers but I don't think I could drive in the snow!
9. How many pets have you had in your lifetime?
Hmmm...Let's see
Courtney was our Mini Schnauzer that my parents had before I was born and until I was about 9
Then, I had about 12 fish before I was 8...haha, they kept dying :)
Then Whistle, the blue Parakeet, my dog gave him a heart attack, I think..haha
Then Fluffy the Hamster
Beauti the cat (I thought he was a girl for the first 2 years of his life...poor thing)
Fudge the Hamster
Patches the cat

And Gracie, our current Mini Schnauzer

10. Would you consider yourself an avid reader?
Eh, if I have time I like a good Nicolas Sparks or Karen Kingsbury book
11. Why did you orginally decide to blog?
I started my blog to share my random thoughts about different parts of the Bible :)

Something I Would've Missed

So, our Sunday School today was on Matthew 14:13-21.
This story is about Jesus feeding 5,000 men (plus women and children) with 5 loaves and 2 fish. This is an amazing feat, but the amazing thing is right before this passage. Right before this, John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin was beheaded. Jesus went up on the mountain to be alone and to pray...He was followed...by over 5,000 people. I don't know about you, but if I had just heard that my cousin had died, I would be in no mood to preach. The really cool thing was that Jesus didn't get mad when He heard of His cousin's death, He went to pray. Then, he didn't get upset when these people came and wanted to hear from Him. He fed them ALL by the grace of God.

I thought it was cool.
Next time, pray before you do something. You could do something cool, like feed 5,000 people. :)

Be content for you can do all things through Christ

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

-Phillipians 4:11-13 (NASB)

I've read Phillipians 4:13 SO many times and have had it memorized most of my life, but when I stop to read the rest of the passage, I am in awe!  Paul learned to be content in propsperity and in humble means.  Even when hungry, he knew that he could do all things through Christ.  This is such an awesome reminder.

30 hours without food

This past week over 30 youth from our Student Ministry participated in the 30 hour famine.
Basically we all went 30 hours without eating just to experience what it's like to actually be hungry.
We collected canned food for our food pantry (Over 700 cans), did service projects and learned about what it's like to live in a developing country.  It's really eye opening.

A 5 gallon water cooler is barely enough to fill the bottom of a bathtub.  That is all that a person in a developing country uses every day to bathe, cook, drink, and wash dishes. Keep in mind that the water they use is not clean.

11,000 children under the age of 5 die every day from hunger related causes.

The saddest thing is, there is enough food produced by the US to feed the ENTIRE world.  It has nothing to do with a food shortage, although that is the case in some countries; if food was distributed better from the US, everyone could be fed.  The bigger problem is that food prices are sky rocketing.  Most people in developing countries live on less that $1 per day. 75 cents used to go to food, but now nutritious food can cost as much as $1.50 per day.

The biggest thing that hit home for me was a picket sign in one of the videos that read "1 week of lattes=1 starving child fed for a month".  Now, I don't go to Starbucks every day, but I do go occasionally.  If you stop and think about that, it's crazy how fast we go through money without thinking about it.  Some of that money could go to help children get food and medical supplies around the world.

We are going to protest hunger in from of our church next Sunday morning.  These are a few of the signs we will be holding.

We slept in cardboard boxes outside.  It was 35 degrees.  I only made it a few hours, but I had 2 layers of clothes, a warm sleeping bag, pillow AND a box.  Most homeless people don't have those luxuries.
Sunday morning we went to Church Under the Bridge in Austin.  This church meets every Sunday in the same place to sing, tell people about Jesus and send them away with food. Sadly, there wasn't enough food for everyone this day, but there were at least 75 homeless people there that heard the Word of Jesus.  There are "regulars" that come every week and enjoy it because it is in their element and they don't have to go anywhere where they feel judged.

Paul...How he fell of the "path"

I have recently begun Beth Moore's Paul: 90 days in his journey of faith.I didn't think I'd really catch anything amazing yet, but of course, I did!
The first few days of this book describe how Paul would have been born, circumcised, and forced to follow the Jewish rituals.  He had to be sent away when he was 13 to learn more about the Torah and who knows what else...
The first portion of his life, he was forced into religion, then finally he couldn't take it any more.  I bet that he grew bored in going through the same rituals daily and the same prayers over and over again.
It just reminded me how grateful I am to have a Savior who died for me to let me pray however I can and not have to go through any special ritual to talk to Him.
