If you do these things, you will receive a rich welcome...

For if you posses these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sings. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:8-11

I have to memorize this! AHH, but so much truth in it!

Now that we are on the Childrens song kick....

Remember:
"The fruit of the Spirit's not a coconut (Hit your head twice)
The fruit of the Spirit's not a coconut (Hit your head twice),
If you wanna be a coconut, you might as well hear it,
You can't be a fruit of the Spirit cause the fruits are: (Deeeeeep breath)
Love, Joy, Peace,Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness
and Self-Controoooool, Love,Joy..."

How funny is it that I actually can only remember the fruits of the Spirit if I sing it? Ha ha..
But, are you really showing fruit? Are you loving, joyful, peaceful, patient? I'm not always. I keep a sticky note on my desk, and when I look at it, I am reminded to try to show more fruit.

Hey, If kids songs help you remember important things from the Bible, who cares!

Rise up and walk

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

-Act 3:1-10

Whenever I hear this passage, I think of the children's song, " 'In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk', and he went walking and leaping and praising God, walking and leaping..." No? There really IS a song, even if you don't know it :)

But, think of being lame, not being able to walk all of your life, then two men walk up to you and say "In the name of Jesus Christ, stand up and walk", and you immediately can! That must have taken a lot of faith. Then, instead of just walking around, the Bible says the man was praising God! Some people would have been too overjoyed that they could walk, to not even give credit to the person who gave it to Him!

Do you consider temptations joyful?

Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;
Knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.

James 1:2-3 (ASV)

You may recognize the verse better like this:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
James 1:2-3 (NIV)

I like the ASV on this one... God tells us to count it as joy when we fall into temptations, because the proving of our faith develops patience.

Are you joyful when you are tempted, because you know that it develps patience? I'm usually not. Work on it with me

Not Guilty Anymore

“Not Guilty Anymore”

“It doesn’t matter what you’ve done,
doesn’t matter what you’re coming from,
it doesn’t matter where you’ve been.
Hear me tell you, I forgive.

You’re not guilty anymore.
You’re not filthy anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.
You’re not broken anymore,
you’re not captive anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.

Can you believe that this is true
. Grace abundant I am giving you.
It’s cleansing deeper than you know.
All was paid for long ago.

You’re not guilty anymore.
You’re not filthy anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.
You’re not broken anymore,
you’re not captive anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.

There is now therefore no condemnation
For those who are in Jesus.

You’re not guilty anymore.
You’re not filthy anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.
You’re not broken anymore,
you’re not captive anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.

You are spotless.
You are holy.
You are faultless.
You are whole.
You are righteous.
You are blameless.
You are pardoned.
You are MINE!

You’re not guilty anymore.
You’re not filthy anymore.
I love you, mercy is yours.

You’re not broken anymore.
You’re not captive any more.
I love you, mercy is yours.”

This is one of those songs that I've heard 1,0000000000000 times, but then I looked at the lyrics.
You're NOT GUILTY! God loves us, and Mercy is ours!
Can you believe us? All of our filthiness, the Creator of the world wanted US to be his children! He could have said 'Nope, they're not worth it..' But He didn't! He LOVES us

My school curriculum picks the best verses to memorize

For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to live; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of rightousness.
-Romans 6:6,11,13

We (Christians) are no longer slaves to sin! We are dead to sin, but ALIVE in Jesus! How awesome!

Adam and Eve

So, of course we've all heard the story of Adam and Eve thousands of times, but I was just reading my Bible lesson for school today, and I learned something..
The Bible says that God said "Don't eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or you will surely die".
Yeah, whatever...But, then they DO eat of it and they DON'T die! We all know that God is not a liar because He is perfect, so what happened?
Their body and soul did not die, their Spirit did. When their Spirit died, they were immediately separated from God.

Does your faith rest on God's power

For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you, except Jesus and Him crucified.
So that your faith might not rest on man's wisdom, but on God's power.
The man without the Spirit does not accept things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot yet understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
-1 Corinthians 2:2,5,14

I resolved to know nothing but Jesus while I was with you, so that your faith might actually rest on God's power and not on man's wisdom...Hmmm..
Does your faith rest on God's power

The End IS actually coming.

When is the last time you really thought about 'The End'?
When I was younger, I just thought, "Yeah, we all die, and go to this Heaven place.."
But, If you think about it, it will be NOTHING like this world! None of what is in this world is worth anything. Only God! "The End of the World" sounds like a movie title, but is not like the end of a story/movie. It is real, It is going to happen to your actual life, not just in a movie.

It gives me goosebumps to think about it, because I have no idea what to expect, but God is going to be there waiting for me in Heaven when I die.
Are you ready?

How is your walk with God?

Last year, while I was sitting in the car on the way home from Wisconsin, I thought to myself "I have this new iPhone, I have nothing to do, and I don't read my Bible enough. I'm going to read 10 chapters a day until I'm done with it" So, I downloaded the YouVersion app. I read the GOD's Word translation, and finished in a couple months, so I then went back with the NIV and read 10 chapters a day again, I finished the Bible twice by September. Then, I realized I had been reading and taking notes, but hadn't really been studying it. So, I started the New Living Translation, and I read 5 chapters a day, but then I got off track, and I ended up 'catching up' reading 20 chapters some days. I really wasn't studying it.
S0, this year, I've decided that I'm going to follow this plan on the YouVersion app on my phone. It shows you to read a couple chapters of the Old Testament and a chapter or two of the New Testament.
I challenge you to become closer to God through His Word this year. It really is amazing how much closer you are to Him when you spend time with Him and really learn what He has done. God made all this world for US, then, He sent His Son, knowing He would die, Then, He left the Holy Spirit with us, so that we could live forever with Him.
He must really love us!

Choosing Sides...

I know, I know, I haven't blogged in a long time...:)
Today my pastor preached on 'Choosing Sides'.
We have to delibrately choose to be on God's side! When we submit ourselves to things other than God, we are opposing Him. We need to consciously choose him.
We need to wash our hands, or rather ask God to wash our hands of our guilt.
We need to purify our hearts by adjusting our attitudes and we need to resist the devil.
When we resist the devil, he will flee from us (How awesome is that?!)
We need to stand our ground against the devil!

The moral is, we can't be on the fence, we can't live double lives. We have to choose our sides, because this IS what is happening! It matters more than anything in this life. God is the ONLY thing that stands forever. EVERYTHING else will pass away. Make sure you are on God's side!
